Three main challenges to Rushikulya olive Ridley turtle nesting areas are:  Organized crime groups stealing turtle eggs and killing turtles for meat. Fishing trawlers illegally fishing in Rushikulya’s 20-km “no-fishing zone” entangling them in trawl nets.   Illegal fishing by small-scale canoes in shallow seas near Rushikulya using gillnets killing them by asphyxiation.
